Scheduled to open in 2011, the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) will set new standards in service delivery and green technology. The cutting-edge design of this landmark building features a spectacular curved, 250m long steel Sidra tree façade.

The largest of its kind in the Middle East

With three-levels, 40,000 square meters of exhibition space and the capacity to host 4,000 delegates at any one time, QNCC is the Middle East’s largest convention center. Key features include:

  • A 2300 seat lyric theatre for performances and events
  • Three additional auditoriums
  • 57 meeting rooms
  • Five-star international in-house catering facilities
  • Multi-level undercover parking spaces for 3,200 cars, 43 coaches and 59 taxis

Green design and construction

QNCC is the first convention and exhibition center of its kind to have been built to the gold certification standard of the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) rating system of the U.S. Green Building Council. Notable green technologies include state-of-the-art systems for water saving, energy efficiency, and indoor environment quality. On the roof 3,676 square meters of solar panels utilize Qatar’s constant sunshine to produce 12.5 per cent of the building’s total electrical requirements.

Green features integrated with building’s design include world class energy and water conservation technologies and 3,500 meters of solar panels that will provide 12.5 per cent of the building’s energy needs when fully operational.
