HALL EVENTS
Housing and Residence Life strives to make every resident feel like their hall is a home away from home. In an effort to make the halls fun and inviting, the live-in professional staff - Residence Hall Directors (RHD's) - and the live-in student staff - Community Development Advisors (CDA's) - work together to make your stay a pleasant one.
Our focus is on hall events that appeal to the needs of each community of residents, while at the same time creating a space where residents have the opportunity to meet other residents from a different university partner or Academic Bridge Program. When holding hall events we make use of the physical spaces and resources within Education City, but we also take residents off campus so that they may form a connection with the wider community of Doha.
Residents are invited to take an active role in the planning of events that appeal to them and their particular community. The RHD's, CDA's, and Residence Hall Council (RHC) embrace resident input to improve their experience in the residence halls. If you have something that you would like to do as a community of resident students, come to your local staff member with the idea and we'll work with you to make it happen!
You can find all of the goings-on for Residence Life in the student newsletter archives, Swalif.
The name 'Swalif' was chosen by the residence hall students. Its meaning is particular to Qatari Arabic and it translates to mean "story telling" or "conversation".
Here are a few events that were put on by the QF Residence Life team:
- Cooking Competition (boys against girls) with Education City's head chef during the fall international student orientation.
- Iftar and Welcome Dinner is held every fall as a 'Welcome Dinner' but for the past couple of years it also happens to be during Ramadan. This event is co-sponsored by Residence Life and Residence Hall Council.
- Reverse Trick-o-Treat was a program co-sponsored by the Community Development Advisors and the professional staff.
- November Nightmarewas a program sponsored by the Residence Hall Council (RHC). In celebration of Halloween which is October 31st, the RHC held a costume party the week following (so as not to compete with other events being held on campus the night of Halloween).
- International Education Week was a program co-sponsored by Campus and Residence Life in collaboration with the branch campuses university partners and the Academic Bridge Program of Education City.
