Science and Research

Science and research are essential to Qatar Foundation’s (QF) transformation into a successful knowledge-based economy.

QF therefore encourages the pursuit of fresh knowledge, scientific research and the development of new technologies.

Central to this approach is to develop a research strategy which brings together Qatar-based research and expertise from abroad to build networks that will yield homegrown solutions for Qatar and the region.

It is also building a research base from both academic and applied research so that universities and businesses can collaborate on translating ideas into commercial reality.

Furthermore, QF is working with its partners to build Qatar’s innovation and technology capacity by developing solutions in key sciences that can be commercialized via links with business, particularly Qatar Science and Technology Park.

In 2006, His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Amir of Qatar, announced that Qatar would spend 2.8 per cent of its GDP on government-funded research - the highest research investment of any country of the world. Based on 2010 figures, this amounts to $3.5 billion annually.

Science & Research Programs

Qatar Foundation (QF) offers a number of programs that help to stimulate the growth of Qatar’s research culture. Through its universities and individual partners, QF collaborates with bodies of international stature as it seeks to establish Qatar’s knowledge-based society. Programs include:

Science & Research Institutions

Qatar Foundation ensures that scientific knowledge is exchanged within Qatar and on the world stage through the work of its own science and research institutions as well as a series of international collaborations. QF stands out in the region for its ability to bring successful research created in Qatar to commercialization through its links with business, particularly Qatar Science and Technology Park.
