Northwestern University in Qatar
What is Northwestern University in Qatar?
Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) trains students to become journalists and communications professionals and specializes in combining the traditions of the media profession with digital competence.
Students at NU-Q are also encouraged to undertake individual research projects on media-related issues, which can either be integrated into the curriculum or carried out as supplementary study. Staff and students have collaborated with other QF institutions on a number of research topics, including branding and viewer perceptions in Qatar.
Established in 2008, NU-Q draws on a long history of leadership in interdisciplinary research programs from its parent campus in the United States.

- In 2010, a study by NU-Q’s Ivana Chalmers explored the ways in which social media platforms offer new and unfamiliar avenues for women in the Middle East to express their identities. This study received the ‘Top Paper’ distinction in its category at the 96th Annual Convention of the National Communication Association (NCA).
